Course is restricted to Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, Law Directors, Legal Advisors, & Judges.

SMALL UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEM (SUAS)/DRONE BASIC OPERATOR

2 Day Course

Agencies have purchased Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) to use for various reasons, but the personnel assigned to operate the aircraft have received no training on how to fly the aircraft. This course is designed to assist newly assigned personnel as well as veteran personnel in learning how to operate the agency's sUAS. Course will cover required equipment, safety, basic flight maneuvers, logbooks, in-flight emergencies, and other issues. Attending operators/pilots will be required to fly their aircraft in the course under the guidance of Remote Pilots. There is a required Evaluation Proficiency Practical Test to complete the course. If there would be inclement weather that arises and would interfere with the course, the course will be rescheduled to a rain date.

Course is for Public Safety Personnel Only (Law Enforcement, Fire/EMS, Search & Rescue). Must have a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, or if the Pilot/Operator student has taken the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Exam, passed and is waiting for the Temporary Certificate to be issued, or has been operating under the Agency’s COA as Self-Certified, or has not yet taken the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Exam, but the Agency has assigned them duties as the Remote Pilot, he/she may participate in the course and receive a certificate as long as one of the Remote Pilots or Remote Pilot-In-Command is present and within close range to take over the controller if an emergency arises.

sUAS/DRONE VISUAL OBSERVER COURSE FOR AIR CREW & PATROL PERSONNEL

1 Day Course

This course is designed to assist patrol officers or air crew who may be assigned to assist the sUAS/Drone Remote Pilot with a mission/operation. Course will cover identifying capabilities and limitations of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) or drones, recognizing the sUAS's utilization by the agency's sUAS Unit, understanding the legal aspects of sUAS access to the National Airspace System (NAS) by Part 107 or Certificates of Authorization/Waiver (COA), implementing the 12 Hours Clock System for describing locations, understanding low light limitations of the human eye, understanding the "sterile cockpit" concept and the need to exclude non-essential personnel from the flight operations area. This course will have practical demonstrations and exercises for those who attend.

OPERATING sUAS/DRONES INSIDE BUILDINGS FOR TACTICAL PURPOSES COURSE

2 Day Course

This course is designed to assist Public Safety sUAS Remote Pilots in becoming familiar with operating a sUAS/Drone inside a structure, flying through windows and doorways, in hallways, up and down stairs or in stairwells, and in confined spaces, etc.  The importance of having a “Tactical Visual Observer” (TVO) assisting the Remote Pilot will be discussed. Remote Pilots attending will operate their agency’s sUAS/Drone in various practical exercises and scenarios at different locations that are designed to help Remote Pilot understand and become familiar with operating a sUAS/Drone inside a structure and/or confined space.  NOTE: It is strongly suggested if the agency has personnel assigned in the role of a Visual Observer (VO), they should send that person or persons to the course to assist their Remote Pilot as a "Tactical Visual Observer." This course is designed to work as a team effort therefore there is no charge for the agency's Visual Observer(s) to attend this course.

This course is for Public Safety Personnel Only (Law Enforcement, Fire/EMS, Search & Rescue).

TACTICAL VISUAL OBSERVERS WORKSHOP

2 Day Course

This course is offered in conjunction with the OPERATING sUAS/DRONES INSIDE BUILDINGS FOR TACTICAL PURPOSES COURSE.  This course is available to an agency's Visual Observer whose Remote Pilot is attending the Operating sUAS/Drones Inside Buildings For Tactical Purposes Course.  This course goes beyond the regular duties of a Visual Observer (VO) and addresses a Tactical Visual Observer (TVO).  The Tactical Visual Observer is assigned for tactical operations where the Remote Pilot for the agency is operating the sUAS/Drone inside a structure.  This course will cover the duties of the Tactical Visual Observer.  The Tactical Visual Observer is a direct link between the Command Post, S.W.A.T./SRT, & the Remote Pilot.  The Tactical Visual Observer allows  the Remote Pilot to operate the sUAS/Drone without further distractions.  They will be with the Remote Pilot at all times.  There will practical demonstrations and Tactical Visual Observers will participate in practical exercises during the course.

Visual Observer must be part of agency's sUAS/Drone Team whose Remote Pilot is attending the Operating sUAS/Drones Inside Buildings For Tactical Purposes Course.

sUAS/DRONES AS A SEARCH & RESCUE TOOL

2 Day Course

This course is designed to assist sUAS Remote Pilots that may be call upon to assist in Search and Rescue of a fugitive/suspect or a lost/missing person.  The course will cover different types of search patterns which can be used by  Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems.  Remote Pilots taking the course will be operating their sUAS throughout the day practicing the different patterns.  Remote Pilots by the end of the day should be familiar and proficient with different search and their sUAS.  This course will give the Remote Pilot different options use in a search.
